At Last! An altruistic reason to eat Dessert First while enjoying champagne and chocolate.

Every year the Altrusa International, Inc. of Downtown Dallas Foundation awards grants to selected non-profit organizations in the Dallas area. In addition to providing monetary support, our members also provide hands-on service throughout the year.

Dessert First is our annual fundraiser, featuring chocolates, champagne, and entertainment. Proceeds from this event go to the Altrusa International, Inc. of Downtown Dallas Foundation, a 501(c) (3) organization, for distribution to the annual beneficiary.

Altrusa has selected Dallas CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) to be the primary beneficiary of 2013 Dessert First. Dallas CASA is a non-profit organization of volunteers who are appointed by judges to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in protective care.

CASA volunteers gather information and make recommendations to help judges decide what is best for each child. A CASA volunteer can make an immediate and critical impact on the life of a child. Advocates help children access the services they need to heal from their abuse, and the information and recommendations CASA volunteers provide help to expedite the court process and provide better outcomes for children under the court's protection. For many abused children, CASA is the only constant during a frightening, uncertain time.

Since 1982, members of Altrusa International, Inc. of Downtown Dallas have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support non-profit agencies that benefit women and children in the Dallas area. Additionally, our members have given more than 80,000 hours of their time to community service.
